What says hope like the presence of true heroes? I couldn’t be more moved that Obama surprised V.P. Biden with the Presidential Medal of Freedom — which puts him in the good company of only three prior recipients (I had no idea!).
A few of Joe’s singular acts of service: fighting to make college more affordable and revitalize American manufacturing, launching a cancer moonshot, and combating gun violence. His wife, Jill Biden, has been pretty exceptional, too: continuing to teach at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) throughout his vice presidency.
“To know Joe Biden is to know love without pretense, service without self regard, and to live life fully,” said Obama.
Here’s to integrity and decency. Like Joe’s parents used to tell him:
“No one’s better than you, but you’re better than nobody. Bravery resides in every heart, and yours is fierce and clear. When you get knocked down, get up!”
