Houston’s leaders promise their city will stay welcoming

A brief one for this too-long pre-holiday week:

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner assured residents that his city will safeguard the rights of all in a statement at a community center yesterday, KHOU reported. Turner, who, like many urban mayors, is pressing Trump to continue the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program, was joined by an array of civic leaders, including the school superintendent, police chief, and various state and federal elected officials. Specific post-election plans for the city’s schools include distributing immigration rights fact sheets, college application assistance, and establishing strong anti-bullying policies.

I am reminded of one more reason to be wary of those who paint a picture of coastal liberal bubbles. When we do that, we ignore the advocacy happening everywhere else.
