At the University of Notre Dame, students staged a peaceful walkout yesterday in support of undocumented classmates. Meanwhile, more than 4,000 community members signed a petition calling for the school to formally declare itself a “sanctuary campus,” according to WSBT. As a deeply lapsed Catholic, I still feel a swell of pride to see that kind of social action thriving at our institutions. Go Irish!
At least informally, Notre Dame already supports the cause.
“If people are trying to undermine in some way our undocumented students simply because of their immigration status, we will do everything to protect them,” Vice President of Communications Paul Browne told the CBS affiliate.
