When I left New York, Ground Zero hadn’t yet been reborn as the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. So today we went. It would have always been emotional, our first trip to an exhibit documenting a piece of history that colored our college years. I do think the last couple weeks of news added an extra weight to the experience. Still, I felt struck by the beauty of the design and architecture — in particular, how the very tip top of David Childs’ Freedom Tower kept slipping and reemerging between clouds and fog. To me, it’s a reminder to keep hoping, keep striving, and keep building toward a better America.
